Job Summary We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Consultant Neurologist specializing in Movement Disorders and Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) to join our multidisciplinary neuroscience team in Abu Dhabi. The successful candidate will provide comprehensive diagnostic, therapeutic, and long-term management services for patients with movement disorders, including Parkinson's disease, essential tremor, dystonia, Huntington's disease, and other complex neurological conditions.

The consultant will play a key role in evaluating patients for advanced therapies, including Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS), collaborating closely with neurosurgeons, neuroradiologists, neurophysiologists, rehabilitation specialists, and allied healthcare professionals to deliver evidence-based, patient-centered care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and manage a wide spectrum of movement disorders using current clinical guidelines and best practices.
  • Assess patients for advanced treatment options, including Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS), infusion therapies, and other device-assisted interventions.
  • Conduct comprehensive pre-operative evaluations and post-operative programming and optimization of DBS systems.
  • Develop individualized treatment plans incorporating pharmacological, surgical, and rehabilitative approaches.
  • Perform detailed neurological examinations and interpret relevant diagnostic investigations, including neuroimaging and electrophysiological studies.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary movement disorder and DBS clinics.
  • Collaborate closely with functional neurosurgeons during patient selection and perioperative management.
  • Provide long-term follow-up care, including DBS programming, troubleshooting, and medication optimization.
  • Educate patients and families regarding disease progression, treatment options, and lifestyle modifications.
  • Participate in inpatient and outpatient neurology services as required.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of movement disorder clinical pathways and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Supervise and mentor junior physicians, residents, fellows, and allied healthcare professionals.
  • Participate in departmental meetings, case conferences, morbidity and mortality reviews, and continuing medical education activities.
  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation in accordance with hospital policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in clinical research, publications, and academic activities where appropriate.
  • Support hospital accreditation standards, patient safety initiatives, and quality assurance programs.

Qualifications

  • Medical degree (MBBS or equivalent) from a recognized institution.
  • Completion of an accredited Neurology Residency Program.
  • Fellowship training in Movement Disorders and Deep Brain Stimulation from a recognized international center.
  • Board Certification in Neurology.
  • Eligibility for or possession of DOH (Department of Health – Abu Dhabi) Consultant License or eligibility to obtain one.

Experience

  • Minimum of 8–10 years of post-specialization clinical experience, including significant experience managing movement disorders.
  • Demonstrated expertise in patient selection, programming, and long-term management of Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS).
  • Experience in multidisciplinary movement disorders clinics.
  • Proven experience in managing complex neurological disorders and advanced therapies.
  • Academic, teaching, and research experience is desirable.

  • Fellowship from internationally recognized institutions in North America, Europe, Australia, or equivalents.
  • Experience with advanced therapies, including levodopa infusion and continuous subcutaneous therapies.
  • Active involvement in clinical research and peer-reviewed publications.
  • Membership or fellowship in recognized neurological societies.
