Job Title: Specialist Psychiatry
Department: Psychiatry / Mental Health
Location: Bashira Clinic, Najda Street, Abu Dhabi, UAE
Reports To: Medical Director

Job Summary

The Specialist Psychiatrist is responsible for diagnosing, treating, and managing patients with mental, emotional, and behavioral disorders in accordance with the standards and regulations of the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi (DOH). The role includes conducting psychiatric evaluations, developing treatment plans, prescribing medications, and providing psychotherapy while ensuring patient safety, confidentiality, and quality care.

Roles and Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, including medical history, mental status examination, and risk assessment.
• Diagnose mental health disorders such as depression, anxiety disorders, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and other psychiatric conditions.
• Develop and implement individualized treatment plans including pharmacological and psychotherapeutic interventions.
• Prescribe and monitor psychiatric medications in accordance with clinical guidelines and DOH regulations.
• Provide psychotherapy and counseling to patients and families when appropriate.
• Monitor patient progress and adjust treatment plans as necessary.
• Maintain accurate medical records and documentation in the EMR system.
• Coordinate with other healthcare professionals for multidisciplinary patient care.
• Ensure compliance with clinical governance, patient safety, infection control, and confidentiality policies.
• Provide emergency psychiatric assessment when required.
• Educate patients and families regarding mental health conditions, medications, and treatment options.
• Participate in quality improvement programs, clinical audits, and continuing medical education.
• Comply with all DOH licensing and healthcare regulations.

Qualifications

• Medical Degree (MBBS or equivalent) from a recognized university.
• Postgraduate qualification in Psychiatry (MD Psychiatry / DPM / Equivalent recognized by DOH).
• Valid DOH License or DOH Eligibility as Specialist Psychiatrist.
• Minimum 3–5 years of clinical experience in psychiatry after specialization.

• Ability to handle sensitive and confidential patient information.
• Knowledge of mental health legislation and DOH regulations.
• Strong documentation and EMR skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary healthcare team.

Working Conditions

• Clinical consultations in outpatient setting.
• May involve handling psychiatric emergencies and crisis intervention.
• Compliance with healthcare facility policies and DOH standards.
