"THIS ROLE IS NOT SUITABLE FOR SPONSORSHIP" Volunteering with NHS Borders NHS Borders is at the heart of our local community and values the contribution that volunteers make to supporting our services. Our volunteers bring a wide range of skills, experiences, and personal qualities that help enhance the care and support provided to patients, families, and staff across the Borders.

Volunteering is a rewarding way to give back to your community while making a real difference in the lives of others. It also offers opportunities to develop new skills, build confidence, meet new people, and improve your own health and wellbeing.

We offer a variety of volunteering opportunities and welcome applications from people of all backgrounds. Current volunteer roles include:

  • Patient Mealtime Volunteers – supporting patients during mealtimes on hospital wards.
  • Patient Experience Feedback Volunteers – gathering feedback to help improve services and patient care.
  • Breastfeeding Peer Supporters – providing encouragement and support to new parents.
  • Spiritual Care Ward Visitors – offering companionship and emotional support to patients.
  • Public Involvement Partnership Group Volunteers – helping to shape services through community engagement and service development.
