Radiology Technician (Dental)

Purpose and Scope of the Job
Under general supervision, Radiologic technologists, also referred to as radiographer**s, produce images (radiographs) of parts of the human body for use in diagnosing medical problems. They prepare patients for radiologic examinations by explaining the procedure, removing articles and positioning patients so that the parts of the body can be appropriately imaged, while following all safety guidelines.
Main Duties and Responsibilities/Performance Standards
1
Apply and execute quality control policy according to the departmental and MOH regulations on all equipments.

Observe all safety regulations set by the manufacturers while using any of the Radiology equipment.

Give appointments and preparation for patients when needed.

Strictly observe the safety rules and guidelines set by the Radiology safety committee and MOH Kuwait
5
Check CAREFULLY the requests for radiology exams.(any missing data must be obtained)
6
Execute radiology examination only after fully understanding the requests written by the physicians.

Apply all safety measures to keep the radiation dose as low as possible for the patients or staff (lead protection, collimation, high kv technique and ext...)

Strictly follow the established protocols in diagnostic imaging dept. (exposure factors, distance, positions, slice thickness, sequences etc.),while performing any radiology exam.

Monitor equipment operation and report any mal functioning to supervisor without any delay.

Perform all types of radiology exams which you are licensed for (general radiology
exams, mammography, fluoroscopy, contrast exams, bonedensitometry, ct-scan and MRI)

Explain procedures to patients to reduce anxieties and obtain cooperation.

Operate mobile equipment’ such as portable x-ray machine and c-arm whenever needed.

Proper positioning of the patients on examination table or stand for every exam.

Settingthe optimum parameters forradiologyexam.
15
Calculate the exact amount of contrast needed for oral or i.v. administration.

Monitor the patients’ vital signs during contrast administration by the radiology nurse and notify the radiologist of any relevant changes.

Follow strictly the hospital patient identification policy in all steps of the imaging process.

Follow strictly the RIS and PACS documentation process.

Observe the quality of each image and repeat work which did not meet the criteria only after being instructed by Radiologist.

Assure that all supplies needed in day to day work such as contrast, cannulas, catheters are present and expiry dates are o.k.

Keep all list of all emergency drugs needed in radiology dept. Ready and make sure that Radiology Nurses are performing a daily check on the expiry dates.

Coordinate work with other staff of dept. Radiologists, technologists, and nurses in Performance of more complicated procedures.

Maintain records of patients examined in the RIS as per policy

Assist with on the job training of new employees and provide input to supervisors, regarding training performance.

Arrange appointments for radiology exams performed under GA.by coordinating with anesthesiology department when needed.

Participate actively in departmental scientific events.

Report incidents,near misses,adverse reactions and sentinel events on a timely manner.

Participate in quality improvement and accreditation activities.

Qualifications, Competences and Skills
Education
Bachelor’sDegreeinRadiologyTechnology.
Experience
3 to 5years experiencedirectlyrelated to theduties and responsibilities specified.
Licensure
Minimum One year
Language
Proficiency in English and Arabic Languages.
Computer Proficiency
Basic computer skills and DIC computer system.
