Job Summary

The Charge Nurse – Surgical Unit is responsible for the daily clinical and operational management of the surgical nursing unit, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, safe, and patient-centered care. The role oversees staff coordination, resource utilization, patient flow, and compliance with hospital policies and regulatory standards.

The Charge Nurse will actively monitor and drive unit Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), support quality improvement initiatives, and ensure optimal patient outcomes while maintaining operational efficiency.

Key ResponsibilitiesClinical Leadership

  • Provide clinical leadership and supervision to nursing staff within the Surgical Unit.
  • Coordinate patient care activities and ensure adherence to evidence-based nursing practices.
  • Ensure appropriate patient assignments and staffing coverage during each shift.
  • Monitor patient condition and intervene in complex clinical situations when required.

Unit Operations & Management

  • Oversee daily operational management of the Surgical Unit including patient admissions, transfers, and discharges.
  • Ensure optimal bed utilization and patient flow management.
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams including physicians, allied health professionals, and support services.
  • Ensure availability and proper utilization of equipment and supplies.

KPI Monitoring & Performance Management

  • Track, monitor, and report unit Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) such as:
  • Patient safety indicators
  • Infection control rates
  • Length of stay
  • Patient satisfaction scores
  • Medication error rates
  • Staff productivity and utilization
  • Implement corrective actions and quality improvement initiatives based on KPI performance.

Quality & Patient Safety

  • Ensure compliance with hospital quality standards, accreditation requirements, and infection control protocols.
  • Participate in clinical audits, risk management, and incident investigations.
  • Promote a culture of patient safety and continuous improvement.

Staff Supervision & Development

  • Supervise and mentor nursing staff to ensure professional development.
  • Conduct performance evaluations, coaching, and competency assessments.
  • Support orientation and training of new nursing staff.
  • Promote teamwork, communication, and staff engagement.

Documentation & Compliance

  • Ensure accurate clinical documentation in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
  • Ensure compliance with hospital policies, nursing standards, and regulatory guidelines.
  • Participate in accreditation preparation and regulatory inspections.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN) – Required
  • Master’s Degree in Nursing or Healthcare Management – Preferred
  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) License (DHA / DOH / MOH or eligibility)

Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of experience as a Charge Nurse in a Surgical Unit or Acute Care setting
  • Proven experience in unit management, KPI monitoring, and performance improvement initiatives
  • Experience in staff supervision, patient flow management, and multidisciplinary coordination

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: AED10,000.00 - AED12,000.00 per month
