Electrophysiology Nurse Coordinator

Position Summary
The Electrophysiology (EP) Nurse Coordinator is a senior clinical nurse role responsible for coordinating the care of patients across the electrophysiology continuum, including inpatient consultations, outpatient communications, procedural preparation, and post‑procedural follow‑up.
In a high‑volume and resource‑constrained EP service, the Nurse Coordinator functions as the central clinical and operational liaison , ensuring safe, timely, and efficient patient care while supporting physicians, bedside nurses, and allied health teams. The role is critical to maintaining workflow efficiency, reducing delays and cancellations, and improving continuity of care for complex EP patients.
Key Responsibilities
1. EP Consultation Service Coordination
- Coordinate and triage inpatient EP consultation requests from hospital services
- Serve as the first point of contact for EP consult calls and electronic messages
- Ensure timely communication between consulting teams and EP physicians
- Assist with prioritization, documentation flow, and follow‑up of consult recommendations
- Support continuity between inpatient consults and outpatient EP care
2. Outpatient Communication & Care Coordination
- Manage and triage outpatient phone calls, electronic messages, and referrals to the EP service
- Provide clinical guidance within scope for post‑procedure concerns, medication questions, and symptom assessment
- Identify issues requiring physician review and escalate appropriately
- Coordinate follow‑up appointments, investigations, and procedural scheduling as needed
- Act as a consistent point of contact for complex or high‑risk EP patients
3. Pre‑Procedural Coordination
- Review patients scheduled for EP procedures to ensure readiness, including:
- Anticoagulation status
- Required laboratory tests and imaging
- Device history and prior EP data
- Consent and documentation completeness
- Identify and address potential issues early to prevent day‑of‑procedure delays or cancellations
- Coordinate with anaesthesia, inpatient teams, device services, and scheduling staff
4. Post‑Procedural Patient Review
- Conduct post‑procedural assessments for EP patients as appropriate (inpatient and outpatient)
- Support early identification of complications or concerns following:
- Ablations
- Device implantations, revisions, or extractions
- Coordinate discharge planning, education, and follow‑up
- Ensure post‑procedure instructions, medication plans, and follow‑up testing are clearly communicated
5. Device & Longitudinal EP Care Support
- Support coordination of care for patients with cardiac implantable electronic devices (CIEDs)
- Assist with workflow related to device interrogations, MRI with CIEDs, and follow‑up pathways
- Facilitate communication between EP physicians, device technicians, and nursing teams
- Support continuity of care across inpatient, outpatient, and procedural settings
6. Team & Workflow Support
- Act as a clinical and operational resource for the EP lab, clinics, and inpatient services
- Reduce unnecessary interruptions to bedside nurses and physicians by managing coordination centrally
- Assist in identifying workflow inefficiencies and opportunities for process improvement
- Participate in service development initiatives related to patient flow, safety, and quality
