Occupational Therapist (Hand Therapy experience)

Overview Facility Overview: Healthpoint, part of the M42 group, is a multi-specialty hospital based in Abu Dhabi. The hospital includes 10 specialty centers: bariatric (weight loss) surgery & weight loss, dentistry, medical specialties, musculoskeletal medicine, pain management & headache, physiotherapy & rehabilitation, plastic surgery & dermatology, pulmonary & sleep medicine, vascular medicine & surgery, & surgical specialties.

Job Overview: This role specializes in evaluating, diagnosing, and treating patients with upper extremity conditions, including injuries, surgeries, or chronic problems affecting the hands, wrists, elbows, and shoulders. They use various techniques, including therapeutic exercises, manual therapy, and modalities, to help patients regain strength, range of motion, and function. Hand therapists also provide education and support to patients and their families.

Responsibilities

• Perform detailed assessments of hand and upper limb function, range of motion, strength, sensation, and dexterity. Use standardized tools and manual techniques to evaluate physical impairments and functional limitations.
• Develop individualized treatment plans based on patient goals, medical history, and surgical protocols.
• Provide therapeutic interventions such as manual therapy, splinting, scar management, edema control, and neuromuscular re-education.
• Design and fabricate custom static and dynamic orthoses (splints) for protection, support, or functional use.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Therapy OR Direct entry of a recognized program with attainment of a MSc degree in Occupational Therapy
• Minimum of 5 years experience in hand therapy
• Experience treating hand injuries or conditions
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS)
• Must have valid UAE license (Department of Health)
• Strong knowledge of upper extremity anatomy, biomechanics, and surgical protocols .Competency in orthotic fabrication and evidence-based rehabilitation techniques
