Pediatric cardiac Surgery Consultant

Position Overview

We are seeking a Western-trained Consultant Pediatric Cardiac Surgeon to join a high-acuity, multidisciplinary Pediatric & Congenital Cardiac Surgery Program . The successful candidate will provide advanced surgical care for neonates, infants, children, and adolescents with congenital and acquired heart diseases, while contributing to clinical governance, teaching, and service development in line with international standards.

Key Clinical Responsibilities

• Perform complex pediatric and congenital cardiac surgical procedures , including neonatal and infant cases.
• Provide peri-operative management in collaboration with Pediatric Cardiology, Cardiac Anesthesia, PICU, and ECMO teams.
• Participate in multidisciplinary case conferences , morbidity & mortality meetings, and quality improvement initiatives.
• Support the development and expansion of congenital heart surgery services, including outcomes benchmarking and international accreditation.
• Participate in on-call consultant rota for pediatric cardiac surgery services.
• Ensure compliance with hospital policies, patient safety standards, and national regulatory requirements.

Academic & Leadership Responsibilities

• Contribute to teaching and supervision of fellows, residents, and junior medical staff.
• Participate in clinical research, audits, and outcome reporting aligned with international databases (e.g., STS / EACTS).
• Support departmental leadership in service planning, protocols, and clinical governance.
• Engage in continuing professional development and international collaboration.

Required Qualifications

Essential

• Western Board Certification in Pediatric Cardiac Surgery or Cardiothoracic Surgery with recognized pediatric cardiac subspecialty training, such as:
• American Board of Thoracic Surgery (ABTS)
• UK CCT in Cardiothoracic Surgery with Pediatric Cardiac Fellowship
• Canadian RCPSC
• European Board (EACTS-recognized training)
• Australian / New Zealand Fellowship (FRACS)
• Completion of an accredited Pediatric Cardiac Surgery fellowship .
• Minimum 5–7 years post-fellowship experience at consultant / attending level.
• Proven independent operative experience in neonatal and complex congenital cardiac cases.
• Eligibility for Qatar Medical License (QCHP) .

Desirable

• Experience in ECMO, mechanical circulatory support, or hybrid cardiac procedures.
• Track record of clinical research or publications.
• Previous experience in a tertiary or quaternary referral center.
