Job Summary

The School Psychiatrist is responsible for promoting and supporting the mental health and emotional well-being of students within the school environment. The role involves conducting psychiatric assessments, diagnosing and managing mental health conditions, providing treatment recommendations, collaborating with school staff and families, and ensuring students receive appropriate mental health support to enhance their academic, social, and emotional development.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations of students referred for mental health concerns.
• Diagnose and manage psychiatric and behavioral disorders in children and adolescents.
• Develop individualized treatment and care plans, including medication management when clinically indicated.
• Provide crisis intervention and risk assessments for students experiencing acute mental health issues, including self-harm or suicidal ideation.
• Work closely with school nurses, counselors, psychologists, learning support teams, and school administration to ensure coordinated student care.
• Provide consultation and guidance to teachers and school staff regarding students with behavioral, emotional, and psychiatric conditions.
• Educate parents and guardians on diagnoses, treatment plans, medication, and strategies to support students at home.
• Participate in multidisciplinary meetings to develop intervention plans and support students with special educational or mental health needs.
• Maintain accurate and confidential clinical documentation in accordance with DOH regulations and school policies.
• Promote mental health awareness through workshops, awareness campaigns, and educational sessions for students, parents, and staff.
• Refer students to external healthcare providers or specialized facilities when advanced or ongoing psychiatric care is required.
• Ensure compliance with DOH standards, safeguarding policies, and child protection regulations.
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives and continuous professional development activities.

Qualifications

• MBBS or equivalent medical degree from a recognized institution.
• MD / Board Certification / Specialist Qualification in Psychiatry.
• Valid DOH License or DOH Eligibility Letter as a Psychiatrist (Mandatory).
• Minimum 3 years of post-specialization experience, preferably in child and adolescent psychiatry or school-based mental health services.
• Strong knowledge of child and adolescent mental health disorders and evidence-based treatment approaches.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and multidisciplinary collaboration skills.
• Fluency in English; Arabic is an added advantage.

Pay: AED1.00 - AED2.00 per month
