Overview Reporting to the Respiratory Therapy Manager, the Respiratory Therapist is responsible for assessing and treating

patients with both acute and chronic dysfunction of the cardiopulmonary system by leveraging best practices in patients’

healthcare in alignment with MH and DOH/DHA policies, procedures, guidelines and standards

Responsibilities

  • Provides respiratory care for patient caseload but also supports or

provides access to additional support for the respiratory care of other

patients where complex assessment and intervention is required, beyond

  • Practices Hemodynamic monitoring and reporting to physician.
  • Performs Arterial Blood Gas punctures when a clinical order has been

written by physician.

  • Performs Capillary Blood Gas when a clinical order has been written by

physician.

  • Performs POCT (Point-of-care testing) to obtain ABG/VBG/CBG result.
  • Performs Tracheostomy Changes when a clinical order has been written

by physician.

  • Provides airway clearance and chest physiotherapy through bronchial

hygiene therapy, manual physiotherapy and cough assist devices,

  • Administration of drugs and medications through inhalation route, and only

per physician order.

  • Provides assessment at a proficient standard/ level.
  • Monitors patient responses and modifies therapies based on clinical

assessment, physiologic monitoring, and laboratory data and in

consultation with the Physician.

  • Assists Physician and code team in cardiac/respiratory arrest situations.
  • Provides advanced emergency airway care.
  • Assists with pulmonary diagnostic procedures as required.
  • Demonstrates proficient analysis skills enabling high quality and highly

specialized individual treatment plans.

  • Respects the skills, expertise, and contributions of colleagues, advocating

for the patient and referring on when appropriate. Liaises with other health

care providers as necessary to ensure appropriate and timely

interventions for the patient.

  • Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to provide individualized care

from point of the first contact throughout the episode of care, incorporating

the continuum of care and rehabilitation goals.

  • Provides up to date, evidence-based treatment interventions to a

proficient level.

  • Identifies & manages deterioration with patient conditions, initiates

appropriate action, and escalates concerns appropriately.

  • Evaluating patient progress and progress/alter treatment programs

accordingly.

  • Prioritizes patient care based on continuous assessment of their ongoing

needs.

Assesses patient and family education needs, provide education in

methods optimal to their learning and evaluate outcomes.

  • Document clinical activities as per organizational policy and at a proficient

level.

  • Utilizes and promotes up to date evidence-based practice in the provision

of patient & family-centered care.

  • Demonstrates accountability for own professional judgment, actions,

outcomes of care and continued competence.

  • Recognizes the boundaries of their scope of practice and limits of own

competence.

  • Demonstrates service excellence and advocacy to always support the

patient rights and dignity.

  • Promotes quality of life and embraces the unique social and cultural role

of the family.

  • Facilitates a climate of mutual understanding, and appreciation of crosscultural differences inherent in a multicultural society.
  • Actively participates in meetings regarding patient care for own caseload

and where additional support has been identified/ prioritized or requested

by team members.

  • Provides comprehensive clinical handover and reports as required to

ensure patient safety and continuity of high quality of care.

  • Traveling with/to patients, whenever required for the clinical requirement.
  • Interpreting or provision of translator for patients, if bilingual and required.
  • Responds to all levels of emergencies according to the organization's

policies and procedures.

  • Liaises with biomedical engineers on routine maintenance and repair of

equipment.

Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Respiratory Therapy

or equivalent qualification

Experience

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience post

qualification in related field

  • Ability to demonstrate evidence of

applying current research to practice

  • Teaching and mentoring skills and

Experience Registered Polysomnographic Technician

certification (RPSGT)

  • DOH/DHA Medical License
  • Current National License and Membership

in a recognized international registration

board

  • Basic Life support (BLS)
  • Advance Life Support (ACLS)
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
