School Nurse - DHA Registered Nurse

Job Summary

The School Nurse is responsible for promoting and maintaining the health, safety, and wellbeing of students and staff within the school environment. The role includes providing first aid and emergency care, managing students with chronic medical conditions, administering medications under approved policies or standing orders, maintaining confidential health records, conducting health screenings, implementing infection prevention measures, and supporting school-wide health promotion initiatives in accordance with Dubai Health Authority (DHA) regulations and UAE healthcare standards.

Experience

• Minimum 1 year of pediatric or school nursing experience (preferred under DHA standards).
• Experience in:
• School clinics
• Pediatric ward

Key Responsibilities
Clinical Care

• Provide immediate first aid and emergency nursing care to students, staff, and visitors.
• Assess students presenting with illness or injury and determine the appropriate course of action.
• Monitor vital signs and perform nursing assessments.
• Administer medications only as prescribed or under approved standing orders in accordance with DHA regulations.
• Manage students with chronic medical conditions such as:
• Asthma
• Diabetes Mellitus
• Epilepsy
• Severe allergies/anaphylaxis
• Cardiac conditions
• Develop and maintain Individual Healthcare Plans (IHPs) and Emergency Care Plans (ECPs) for students with special healthcare needs.
• Coordinate referrals to hospitals, clinics, or emergency medical services (998) whenever required.

Emergency Response

• Respond promptly to medical emergencies occurring within the school premises.
• Activate emergency protocols and coordinate ambulance services when necessary.
• Maintain emergency equipment, medications, oxygen supply, AED (if available), and emergency kits.
• Ensure emergency medications remain within expiry dates.
• Participate in emergency drills and disaster preparedness exercises.

School Health Services

• Conduct routine health assessments and screenings in accordance with DHA requirements.
• Assist in national school health screening programmes.
• Monitor students for communicable diseases.
• Implement infection prevention and control measures.
• Report notifiable diseases as required by DHA.
• Monitor immunization compliance according to UAE regulations.
• Maintain student health records confidentially and accurately.

Health Promotion

• Deliver health education programmes for:
• Students
• Teachers
• Parents
• Promote healthy lifestyles, nutrition, hygiene, mental health, and physical wellbeing.
• Participate in school health awareness campaigns approved by DHA.
• Support behavioural and mental health initiatives by identifying students requiring additional support and referring them appropriately.

Communication & Collaboration

• Liaise with parents regarding student health concerns.
• Coordinate with physicians and allied healthcare professionals regarding student care.
• Support teachers in managing students with medical conditions.
• Participate in multidisciplinary meetings related to student health.
• Maintain strict confidentiality in accordance with UAE privacy regulations.

Pay: AED50.00 - AED100.00 per month
