Job Description
The Consultant Cardiologist is responsible for delivering comprehensive, evidence-based cardiovascular care through clinical excellence, leadership, and multidisciplinary collaboration. The role encompasses the assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, and management of acute and complex cardiovascular conditions, ensuring patient safety and optimal clinical outcomes. The Consultant Cardiologist leads quality improvement initiatives within the cardiology service, mentors junior physicians, and contributes to the strategic development of Bupa CareConnect's cardiovascular care capabilities across physical and virtual care settings.
Clinical Assessment and Diagnosis
Conduct comprehensive cardiovascular assessments through detailed patient history, physical examination, and review of diagnostic investigations
Interpret ECGs, echocardiograms, stress tests, cardiac imaging, and relevant laboratory results
Formulate accurate and timely differential diagnoses aligned with evidence-based clinical guidelines
Escalate complex or high-risk cardiovascular cases appropriately to tertiary services when indicated
Maintain accurate and complete clinical documentation in the electronic health record system
Management and Treatment Planning
Develop individualized, evidence-based treatment plans for patients with acute and chronic cardiovascular conditions
Optimize pharmacological therapy and adjust treatment plans based on patient response and clinical evolution
Provide continuity of care for patients across outpatient, virtual, and follow-up settings
Coordinate referrals to internal specialists or tertiary centers when required
Educate patients on their conditions, medications, and treatment expectations
Clinical Quality and Patient Safety
Ensure strict adherence to clinical protocols, evidence-based guidelines, and patient safety standards
Participate actively in clinical audits, peer reviews, and quality improvement initiatives
Report, investigate, and manage clinical incidents and adverse events in a timely manner
Support compliance with CBAHI, JCI, and applicable accreditation standards
Contribute to risk management and patient safety improvement activities
Multidisciplinary Collaboration
Collaborate with internal medicine, emergency medicine, radiology, nursing, and allied health teams for integrated patient care
Participate in multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings and case discussions
Maintain timely and professional communication with referring physicians and specialist teams
Coordinate patient care transitions and continuity between care settings
Provide clinical guidance and specialist support to other healthcare providers
Patient Experience and Education
Educate patients and families on cardiovascular conditions, preventive care, lifestyle modifications, and treatment expectations
Address patient concerns with empathy, clarity, and professionalism
Monitor patient satisfaction feedback and participate in initiatives to improve patient experience
Ensure patient confidentiality and protect personal health information in all interactions
Provide patients with clear, actionable self-management guidance
Professional Development and Leadership
Maintain active SCFHS professional licensure and comply with all continuing medical education (CME) requirements
Stay updated on advancements in cardiology practice, clinical research, and emerging treatment modalities
Mentor junior physicians and support their clinical and professional development
Contribute to clinical governance activities and departmental strategic initiatives
Participate in conferences, workshops, and specialty development programs
Skills
Technical Skills
Advanced cardiovascular diagnostic skills including ECG interpretation, echocardiography, stress testing, and cardiac imaging
Clinical management of acute and chronic cardiovascular conditions including heart failure, arrhythmias, ischemic heart disease, and hypertension
Proficiency in EMR systems, telemedicine platforms, and digital healthcare tools
Evidence-based clinical decision-making and adherence to international cardiology guidelines
Safe prescribing and medication optimization for complex cardiovascular patients
Managerial / Professional Skills
Strong clinical leadership and mentoring capabilities for junior medical staff and registrars
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for multidisciplinary collaboration
Commitment to quality improvement, patient safety, and clinical governance
Ability to work effectively in fast-paced, multidisciplinary environments
Arabic and English language proficiency
