Job Title : Medical Oncology Senior Registrar
Department : Oncology
Reporting To : Head of Department (HOD)
Direct Reports : Physicians
Role Purpose
The Medical Oncology Senior Registrar provides patient-centered, evidence-based oncology care, ensuring compliance with professional, ethical, and regulatory standards. The role focuses on the diagnosis, treatment, and ongoing management of patients with solid tumors, while supporting quality, safety, and continuous clinical excellence within the Oncology Department.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Care and Patient Management
- Provide comprehensive medical oncology care for patients with solid tumors.
- Diagnose, treat, and manage cancer patients using evidence-based medical oncology protocols.
- Develop and implement individualized treatment plans, including chemotherapy, immunotherapy, targeted therapy, and hormonal therapy.
- Ensure high standards of patient-centered care while adhering to ethical and professional practices.
- Participate in multidisciplinary tumor boards and collaborate with surgical oncology, radiation oncology, and supportive care teams.
- Monitor treatment response, manage treatment-related complications, and provide follow-up care.
Clinical Risk Management
- Identify and manage clinical risks related to medical oncology treatments.
- Ensure patient safety through adherence to approved clinical guidelines and protocols.
- Report and manage adverse events in line with hospital policies.
Compliance and Quality Management
- Ensure compliance with clinical governance, hospital policies, and quality standards.
- Maintain accurate, timely, and comprehensive medical records.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives within the Oncology Department.
- Professional Development and Excellence
- Engage in continuous medical education and professional development.
- Stay updated with advances in medical oncology, including new therapies and treatment guidelines.
- Participate in teaching and mentoring junior physicians and trainees when required.
- Ethical Practice
- Uphold integrity, professionalism, and ethical standards in all clinical duties.
- Ensure informed consent and ethical decision-making in patient care.
Skills and Qualifications
Essential Minimum Requirements
- Minimum 3–5 years of post-qualification experience in Medical Oncology.
- Valid certification and registration in Medical Oncology recognized by the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (SCFHS).
- Active and valid Life Support certifications (BLS, ACLS).
Desired Experience
- At least 3 years of Specialist-level experience in Medical Oncology.
- Experience working in a tertiary or advanced oncology care setting is an advantage.
Desired Education & Skills
- Fellowship or advanced training in Medical Oncology.
- Strong knowledge of modern oncology treatments, including targeted therapy and immunotherapy.
- Excellent clinical judgment, communication, and teamwork skills.
- Research, teaching, or clinical trials experience is an added advantage.
