Radiology Specialist

Roles and Responsibilities

The Radiologic Technology Specialist is responsible for performing diagnostic X-ray

examinations and advanced radiology and medical imaging examinations for patients

according to hospital scope of service ensuring high-quality imaging while providing

excellent patient care. This role includes preparing patients for procedures, operating X

ray equipment, and adhering to safety and quality standards.

1. Patient Preparation

● Prepare patients for X-ray examinations by explaining procedures, answering

questions, and ensuring their comfort.

● Obtain and review patient medical histories and relevant documentation.

2. Equipment Operation

● Operate X-ray machines and other imaging equipment safely and effectively to

obtain high-quality images.

● Ensure all equipment is maintained and functioning properly, reporting any issues

to the Radiology Supervisor.

3. Image Quality Assurance

● Ensure that images are of diagnostic quality and meet departmental protocols.

● Review images for completeness and accuracy before sending them for

interpretation by radiologists.

4. Safety Compliance

● Adhere to radiation safety protocols to protect patients, staff, and self from

unnecessary exposure.

● Use appropriate protective equipment, such as lead aprons and shields, during

procedures.

5. Record Keeping

● Maintain accurate records of procedures performed, including patient

information, technical details, and any complications encountered.

● Ensure proper documentation and filing of X-ray images in electronic health

records (EHR).

6. Collaboration

● Work closely with radiologists and other healthcare professionals to facilitate

patient care and diagnostic accuracy.

● Assist in coordinating patient flow within the radiology department.

7. Patient Care

● Provide compassionate care to patients during their visits, ensuring a supportive

environment.

● Address patient concerns and questions related to the X-ray process.

8. Continuous Education

● Participate in ongoing training and professional development to stay updated on

advancements in radiological technology and best practices.

● Attend departmental meetings and contribute to discussions on quality

improvement.

9. Additional Duties

● Perform other duties as assigned by the Head of Radiology Department.

● Assist in maintaining the cleanliness and organization of the radiology work area.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities

1. Technical Skills

● Strong knowledge of X-ray equipment, imaging techniques, and radiographic

procedures.

● Proficiency in operating radiological equipment and understanding imaging

protocols.

2. Attention to Detail

● Strong attention to detail to ensure quality images and accurate patient records.

● Ability to identify and resolve issues related to image quality.

3. Communication Skills

● Excellent verbal and written communication skills for effective interaction with

patients, colleagues, and physicians.

● Ability to explain technical information clearly and compassionately.

4. Interpersonal Skills

● Strong interpersonal skills to build rapport with patients and collaborate

effectively with the healthcare team.

Qualifications and Requirements

1. Education

● Associate's degree or diploma in Radiologic Technology or a related field.

● Completion of an accredited radiologic technologist program.

2. Licensure

● Current and valid radiologic technologist license or certification, as required by

local regulations.

● Certification from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or

equivalent is preferred.

3. Language Proficiency

● Proficiency in English (spoken and written) is required.

● Proficiency in Arabic is preferred but not mandatory.

4. Other Requirements

● Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends if necessary.

● Commitment to ongoing education and staying current with advancements in

radiology.

Experience

1. Minimum of 2-4 years of experience in radiology, specifically in performing X-ray

examinations.

1. Experience in a healthcare setting, preferably in a hospital or diagnostic imaging

center.
