Purpose and Scope of the Job

Plans, directs, and evaluates all administrative and clinical activities within the Nursing Department in accordance with the hospital philosophy and objectives. Provides leadership and direction in developing and maintaining an environment of excellence that supports and empowers nurses at all levels. Monitors and oversees the strategic and operational direction of the Nursing Department. A member of the Hospital Senior Management Team.

Main Duties and Responsibilities/Performance Standards

Demonstrates leadership and managerial skills and provides administrative guidance to the nursing staff.

Develops annual operation plan for the nursing department in alignment with Dar Al-Shifa mission, vision and goals and in accordance to the community needs, and submit it for CEO’s approval.

Develops short term objectives at unit levels and evaluates progress on regular basis.

Ensures that nursing services are provided in accordance with policies, procedures, and international accreditation standards with a focus on patient-and family-centered care.

Develops organizational programs, reviews, approves and maintains policies and procedures as a standard reference for all nursing staff within Dar Al-Shifa hospital.

Establishes and maintains liaison between nursing staff and medical and administrative staff as well as patients and their families to ensure effective coordination of efforts for optimal patient care. Reports to the Medical Administration on work related matters, as dictated by the applicable regulations of the Ministry of Health.

Guides and directs staff in the nursing services, infection control, nursing quality, nursing and patient education and other staff members in subject matters including, but not limited to, problem solving, goal setting and developing strategies for implementing and evaluating results of Dar Al-Shifa business plans.

Evaluates and makes appropriate changes in the nursing care delivery system and overall organization of the department, consulting the CEO on major and organizational changes.

Develops annual nursing staffing plan in collaboration with the Human Resources Department.

Investigates unusual occurrences/incidents on a timely manner, and makes/recommends changes as deemed required by the results.

Coordinates with other leaders to ensure appropriate levels of supplies and materials are available; evaluates equipment needs and provides information to the Material Management Department; supports training on proper usage of equipment; and advises on appropriate maintenance and operation of equipment.

Promotes the just culture among all the nursing staff that encourage reporting as well as be responsible and accountable for actions

Chairs/participates in Nursing/Hospital committees, unit level staff meetings or special projects as requested by Hospital Management or to meet identified needs.

Utilizes the Performance Improvement Program as the methodology for the formal evaluation of the services rendered by the Nursing Department.

Evaluates quality of patient care services, functioning of assigned areas, and assesses attitudes and expressed needs of patients and staff to plan change.

Ensures orientation, training and continuing education are provided for all nursing personnel in accordance with policies and education plan.

Directs, motivates and counsels nursing staff on their activities as needed regarding their performance, cultural and personal issues.

Takes appropriate and timely disciplinary action within the nursing department using counseling and documentation in accordance with the hospital applicable policies.

Directs various personnel nursing activities including, but not limited to, hiring, promotions, transfers, performance appraisals, and professional growth.

Demonstrates self-direction in identifying personal learning needs to maintain professional development.

Conducts physical rounds in all nursing units to observe care and ensure appropriateness of the unit atmosphere, safety of the environment, general cleanliness/maintenance of the unit, staff adherence to dress code, patient bedside care, etc.

Promotes a culture of high performance and continuous improvement that values learning and a commitment to quality and high standards of care.

Collaborates with the government inspection and ensures full compliance to any findings.

Ensure quality and patient safety practices are followed

Provide or promotes patient and family- centered care.

Promotes inclusive health by providing equitable and accessible care to patients and families with special needs.

Qualifications, Competencies and Skills

Education

Bachelor Degree in Nursing with Master’s degree in Nursing/Health Care Management.

Experience

Minimum experience of 10 years in a senior management position in a hospital.

Licensure

Credentials as per Ministry of Licensing requirements.

Language

Mastering both Arabic and English.

Computer Proficiency
