Sonographer is responsible for preparing the patient(s) for the Ultrasound examination. Selecting the appropriate equipment for the ultrasound examination and performing ultrasound examinations that yield important diagnostic information. ESSENTIAL FUNCTION: • Verify patent’s identity and the doctor’s request • Explain the ultrasound procedure to patients and answer any questions they may have. • Communicate the required patient preparations • Operate the ultrasound equipment using the best techniques to produce diagnostic images of the requested anatomy • Taking care of the transducers and the ultrasound equipment • Work in line with infection control policy and other safety policies to prevent health and other safety hazards to staff and patients • Evaluate and interpret the images and communicate the findings to the Radiologist • Works effectively as a member of multidisciplinary team to ensure that high standard of service is provided to patients, for example by sharing specialist knowledge and expertise. • Records imaging identification and patient documentation swiftly and accurately and adheres to protocols ensuring compliance with the Data Protection Act and patient confidentiality. • Acquires new techniques and technologies as required by professional bodies and participating in annual performance appraisal programs • Maintain patient records and add medical notes related to the ultrasound procedure. • Assists with quality control/ performance improvement measures as required • May performed other duties assigned as deemed necessary.
