Job Summary

Coordinates the Mortality and Morbidity (M&M) review process including support and training of physicians and identifies and presents cases which require discussion at the M&M Committee. Monitors Hospital-wide compliance with the M&M IPP.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties

1. Coordinates M&M review process, performs chart reviews, and allocates cases to departments for review as necessary.

2. Chooses, prepares and presents cases for discussion at M&M Committees, identifies and focuses on cases where there are areas of possible mismanagement error, lack of communication, system failure and/or poor standards of care.

3. Updates the M&M module in the Quality Information System (QIS). Liaises with HITA to refine M&M module in QIS and troubleshooting of the same.

4. Coordinates and participates in M&M Committees and taskforces as assigned to develop policy and system changes to be suggested to Medical Affairs. Follows up on recommendations made from such committees.

5. Perform clinical responsibilities within related specialty such as (Nursing, Laboratory, Respiratory, Pharmacy, etc.) as assigned.

6. Networks with Quality Management, Patient Safety, Sentinel Events Committee and Patient Complaints regarding M&M cases.

7. Educates and trains staff regarding the M&M module in the (QIS).

8. Collaborates with M&M to provide support and timely review of cases. Attends M&M Committees as requested.

9. Monitors and follows up on physician compliance with M&M timeline for reviews.

10. Participates in implementing quality management and quality improvement programs.

11. Participates and attends educational conferences as assigned.

12. Participates in research and the preparation of appropriate case studies for publication.

13. Provides leadership in encouraging supporting staff in reporting and reviewing of morbidities.

14. Follows all Hospital’s related Policies and Procedures.

15. Participates in self and others' education, training and development, as applicable.

16. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

Education

Master’s degree in quality management, Health Allied, Business Administration, or other related discipline is required or bachelor’s degree in nursing, Health Allied, Quality Management or other related discipline is required.

Experience Required

Four (4) years of related experience with Master’s, or six (6) years of related experience with bachelor’s degree is required.

Other Requirements/ Certifications

  • Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ) and /or Certified Professional Patient Safety (CPPS)
  • Quality, Data, or M&M related certifications (i.e. CPHRM, Lean Six Sigma (ASQ or equivalent), ISQUA)
