Purpose and Scope of the Job

The Discharge Officer is responsible for the billing statement at inpatient wards and will be responsible to provide a positive, welcoming attitude at all times; maintaining a clutter-free, customer-friendly.

Main Duties and Responsibilities/Performance Standards:

  • Adheres to established Reception departmental policies and procedures and initiates
  • Action in attending to the patients as per established procedures.
  • Responsible for being courteous and prompt in attending the patient, with the basic idea of “rendering service with a smile”.
  • Managing and preparing patient invoices.
  • Performing administrative tasks such as answering phone calls and responding to emails.
  • Following up with patients on accounts that are late as well as those which are seriously overdue.
  • Keeping all patient records confidential.
  • Deal with medical insurance companies and to explain financial matters to patients and staff.
  • Process patient statements, post transactions, and ensure accuracy of inputted data.
  • Perform administrative tasks such as receiving phone calls, replying emails, and using word processors to prepare reports.
  • Monitor unpaid claims and contact customers by sending them payment reminder as required.
  • Ensure compliance with standard procedures and policies in performing job operations.
  • Participates in departmental meetings and related in-service educational programs.
  • Respond as appropriate to enquiries from patients regarding treatment, benefits, and billings; coordinate the resolution of related problems.
  • Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
  • Ensures quality and patient safety practices are followed.
  • Provides or promotes people centered care.
  • Promotes inclusive health by providing equitable and accessible care to patients and families with special needs.

Qualifications, Competences and Skills

Education: High School graduate or equivalent.

Experience: 2 years’ experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Licensure: Not Applicable

Language: High proficiency English while Arabic is an advantage.

Computer Proficiency: Basic skills in Word, Excel and outlook.

  • Knowledge of medical insurance claims procedures and documentation.
  • Knowledge of patient care charts and patient histories.
  • Align with Hospital quality polices and patient safety procedures
