Guest Lecturer – Culinary Arts (Baking and Cake Making)

About the Role

Kingston Education Training Centre is seeking an experienced Culinary Arts (Baking and Cake Making) professional with teaching or industry training experience to deliver engaging, practical, and hands-on training sessions. The successful candidate will equip learners with essential baking techniques, pastry skills, and food safety knowledge while fostering creativity, precision, and professionalism in the kitchen.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver interactive classroom and practical kitchen training sessions in Culinary Arts with a specialization in Baking.
  • Teach core baking topics, including bread making, cakes, pastries, cookies, desserts, dough preparation, baking techniques, cake decoration, and confectionery.
  • Demonstrate proper use of baking equipment, ingredients, and commercial baking methods.
  • Train learners in food safety, hygiene standards, kitchen organization, and safe food handling practices.
  • Incorporate practical demonstrations, hands-on exercises, recipe development, and industry best practices into lessons.
  • Assess learner performance through practical assessments and provide constructive feedback.
  • Prepare lesson plans, recipes, training materials, and practical activities that support effective learning outcomes.
  • Foster a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment while encouraging creativity, consistency, and attention to detail.
  • Keep learners updated on current baking trends, modern techniques, sustainability practices, and innovations within the culinary and baking industry.

QualificationsRequired

  • Bachelor's degree, Diploma, or Professional Certification in Culinary Arts, Baking and Pastry Arts, Hospitality, or a related field.
  • Minimum 3+ years of professional experience in baking, pastry production, or a commercial bakery environment.
  • Strong knowledge of baking techniques, pastry production, cake decoration, dessert preparation, commercial kitchen operations, and food safety standards.
  • Previous teaching, lecturing, corporate training, mentoring, or classroom instruction experience is required.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to demonstrate practical baking techniques and supervise hands-on kitchen training.

Preferred

  • Professional certifications in Culinary Arts, Baking and Pastry Arts, or Food Safety (such as HACCP, ServSafe, or equivalent).
  • Experience working in hotels, bakeries, pastry shops, restaurants, or catering operations.
  • Experience delivering vocational or professional culinary training programs.
  • Knowledge of artisan baking, specialty breads, chocolate work, sugar craft, plated desserts, or modern pastry techniques is an advantage.
  • Experience preparing learners for professional culinary or baking certifications is desirable.
