Job Summary

  • The Laboratory Specialist is responsible for performing routine analysis in one of the divisions of Clinical Laboratory and blood bank department under supervision of the Senior Medical Technician staff.
  • May rotate through various laboratory sections in order to keep familiar with those laboratory procedures which may be ordered on an emergency basis when working shifts.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensures through his actions, either directly or indirectly, that a superior quality of medical treatment, compassion and understanding is given to every patient served at the Riyadh care Hospitals and Clinics.

  • Performs duties in the laboratory on-call /shift roster for week-days, week-ends and during public holidays.

  • Receives or obtains specimen in aseptic conditions for laboratory testing.

  • Prepares specimens for testing and assesses the integrity of clinical specimens as per policies prior to testing.

  • Creates daily worksheets activities according to diagnostic applications.

  • Performs routine and of moderate complexity testing and analyses according to SOPs and QC assessment.

  • Prepares common use reagents and starts the daily calibration of equipments for daily routine activities.

  • Performs regular assessment of equipments of common use by measurements of indicators as per laboratories procedures.

  • Evaluates new procedures or methods under direct supervision of department Senior Technician.

  • Performs daily calibration and maintenance of equipments and sustains documents of all activities.

  • Follows approved procedures to ensure laboratory quality control and compliance with standards of practice.

  • Maintains accurate records of QC and patient results.

  • Identifies and reports deficiencies either technical or managerial to Senior Technician / Chief Technician.

  • Participates in the solving-process of laboratory trouble-shooting.

  • Sustains appropriate common reagents and products inventory for laboratory activities.

  • Adheres to quality system approach of laboratory activities.

  • Validates and accepts laboratory results under supervision prior to release through Laboratory Information System.

  • Participates in the orientation and training of new technicians.

  • Working time may include night shifts and rotating weekends and holidays as per the organization of the department.

  • Responsible to educate patients /families as per their needs and to implement their whole role regarding patient / family education process as mention in patient & family education policy and procedure including documentation in patient medical record.

  • They are knowledgeable about their essential role in patient and family education.

  • Ensures the protection of patients’ health information.

Qualifications

A minimum of

Bachelor’s Degree/ ore equivalent from an approved school of medical Technology, College or University.

  • Current registration with the designated authority for Medical Technologist / Technician from country of origin/ recruitment + license of Ministry of Health (MOH) in Saudi Arabia.

Experience

  • Required:

Three (3) years post-qualification clinical laboratory experience in a large acute care hospital facility.

Skills

  • preferably One year experience in similar job
  • Fluency in verbal and written English.
  • Exhibits professionalism and excellent interpersonal communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of computer skills.
  • Knowledge of current proficiency testing and quality control.
