About the Role
This position is responsible for performing advanced ophthalmic testing procedures and ensuring the delivery of patient care in an effective manner.
Responsibilities
- Performs all duties of the Certified Ophthalmic Technician. In addition, must demonstrate strong knowledge of ophthalmic sub-specialties and testing procedures.
- Performs procedures as directed by physician or supervisor, which may include but not limited to testing of visual acuity, tonometry, lensometry, motility, pupil assessment, color vision, topography, biometry, visual field testing, pachymetry, keratometry, stereovision, and refraction/retinoscopy.
- Obtains patient information, updates patient history and determines purposes of visit.
- Records data into patient’s electronic medical record.
- Refers gathered information to physician for further examination, diagnosis of problem and prescription of treatment.
- Assists physician with examination procedures or minor surgery (i.e., holding probes on cornea, holding patient’s eyelid open during stitch removal and retrieving instruments).
Qualifications
- Graduation from a certified program (minimum two (2) year curriculum) for Ophthalmic Technologists.
- Minimum of two (2) years post graduate experience is required.
Required Skills
- Knowledge of ophthalmic testing procedures, ocular pharmacology, ocular motility, microbiology, keratometry, biometry, refraction, and retinoscopy.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to speak and write in English is required.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite.
